About
Why we built this site.
AgingParentTech.com exists because helping an aging parent stay safe at home is one of the most stressful and confusing buying decisions a family faces — and most of the guidance online is written to sell, not to help.
Our job is research and curation. For each product category we read manufacturer specifications, published safety and clinical guidance, and large volumes of verified customer reviews — then translate it into plain, decision-ready advice for families. We are editors and researchers, not a testing lab and not clinicians, and we are clear about that. You can read exactly how we work, what we can and cannot verify, and how we make money on our How we evaluate page.
Who is behind these guides
Eleanor Hart
Senior Editor, AgingParentTech.com
Eleanor Hart is the editorial voice behind AgingParentTech.com. Our team researches and compares senior-safety and daily-living products by reading manufacturer specifications, published clinical and safety guidance, and large volumes of verified customer reviews — then translating it into plain-language buying advice for families. We are researchers and editors, not clinicians; our guides curate and summarize published information and are not a substitute for personal medical advice.
How we pick what to recommend
Safety certifications first
For bathroom safety products, we prioritize ADA-compliant weight ratings, non-slip certifications, and installation requirements. A grab bar that cannot support 250 lbs at angle is not safe regardless of how it looks.
Actual usability for seniors
A product designed for seniors needs to work for seniors — including those with arthritis, limited grip strength, reduced vision, or cognitive changes. We assess button size, label clarity, grip diameter, and ease of adjustment.
Amazon review quality analysis
We read verified purchase reviews critically: looking for patterns in 1-star reviews, flagging products with installation failures, and identifying where positive reviews may be incentivized.
Honest affiliate disclosure
We earn a small commission on qualifying Amazon purchases at no extra cost to you. This does not change our recommendations — products are evaluated on merit, and we will tell you when a cheaper alternative is just as good.
